He Saved Us To Him… To Save Us From Him

The Power of Praise: Rescued by Worship

In today’s world, where challenges seem to loom large, the power of praise can often be overlooked. This past Sunday, I had the privilege of sharing a powerful message that resonated deeply with the congregation. The theme revolved around the idea that “He saved us to Him in order to save us from Him.” This profound statement encapsulates the essence of our relationship with God and the transformative power of praise.

The Story of Resilience

One of the most touching stories shared during the service was about a little boy who was kidnapped in Atlanta. Despite the terrifying situation, he began singing, “Every praise is to our God.” For three hours, he sang, even when the kidnapper threatened him. Ultimately, his unwavering praise led to his release. This story illustrates a vital truth: praise can rescue us.

Why Praise Matters

  • Praise Connects Us to God: When we praise, we align our hearts with God’s will.
  • Praise Brings Comfort: In times of distress, worship can provide solace and strength.
  • Praise is a Weapon: It can be a powerful tool against fear and despair.

The Importance of Choice

As we delve into the Scriptures, we see that God gives us the gift of free will. We have the choice to either accept Him or reject Him. This choice is crucial, as it determines our path:

  • Choosing Obedience: Leads to life and fulfillment.
  • Rejecting God: Ultimately leads to destruction.

The Rebellion of Korah

In the book of Numbers, we read about Korah’s rebellion against Moses and Aaron. Korah, along with others, felt they deserved more authority and recognition than what God had ordained. Their rebellion serves as a warning:

  • God’s Authority is Sovereign: We must respect the order He has established.
  • The Consequences of Rebellion: Korah and his followers faced dire consequences for their defiance.

The Wrath of God and His Mercy

The message emphasized that God’s wrath is a reality, but so is His mercy. Jesus came to save us from the impending wrath of God. As Romans 8:2 states, “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”

The Role of Jesus

  • Savior or Judge: At the end of time, we must decide who Jesus will be for us—our Savior or our judge.
  • Grace and Mercy: Through Jesus, we receive grace (the good we don’t deserve) and mercy (freedom from punishment).

The Guidance of the Holy Spirit

Jesus promised in John 16:13 that the Holy Spirit, referred to as the “Spirit of Truth,” would guide us into all truth. This guidance is essential in our relationship with God, as it ensures that we are aligned with His will.

The Comforter’s Role

  • Teaching and Remembrance: The Holy Spirit teaches us all things and reminds us of Jesus’s words.
  • Personal Connection: God remains personal and active in our lives, providing signs, wonders, and miracles.

The Call to Action

Choosing to follow Christ is the most significant decision one can make. It involves more than mere words; it requires a commitment to live according to His will.

How to Choose Life

  1. Accept Jesus: Believe in Him as the Son of God.
  2. Repent: Turn away from sin and toward God.
  3. Obey: Follow His teachings and commands.

The Warning Against Complacency

Paul warns against thinking too highly of ourselves. We must recognize our place in God’s plan and not become envious of others. Like Korah, we can easily fall into the trap of wanting recognition instead of focusing on God’s glory.

Standing in the Gap

The message also highlighted the importance of standing in the gap for others, much like Aaron did when he made atonement for the people during the plague (Numbers 16:41-50). We are called to be bold witnesses of the truth and to intercede for those around us.

Our Responsibility

  • Witnessing: We must share the gospel and stand for those who cannot stand for themselves.
  • Prayer and Intercession: Pray for others, asking God to intervene in their lives.

Conclusion: The Path of Praise

As we navigate through life, let us remember the power of praise. It can rescue us, strengthen us, and connect us to our Creator. Let us choose to praise Him, knowing that through our worship, we are drawn closer to Him and away from the perils of rebellion and sin.

By embracing the transformative power of praise and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can live a life that honors God and reflects His glory. Let us choose wisely, remain steadfast in our faith, and always give praise to our God.
